My nails are in so much better shape than they were the first time I met Nurse Delta. Some of my nails were traumatized by playing pickle ball. Nurse Delta now has them in wonderful shape.

She worked in hospitals, nursing homes, home care and hospice.
She knows through experience just how routine care and maintenance of older feet can help keep seniors (and others) active, safe and independent.
She lives in San Juan County with her little border terrier, JoJo, and enjoys writing, gardening, arts/crafts and a good book or Netflix series.
“It’s my privilege to support your quality of life, one foot at a time.”

As you age, so do your feet. Keeping your feet happy and healthy requires routine care. Without it, your quality of life can suffer.
Your foot care nurse can address many of the foot issues that come with aging. This can help improve walking safety and may decrease pain and your risk of falling.
Let RiverWalk RNs help you keep your independence!
Please reach us at 505-634-9990 if you cannot find an answer to your question.
There are many reasons a foot care nurse is right for you…
First and foremost, a foot care nurse does not replace a foot doctor.
Podiatrists are foot specialists who do what doctors do best: diagnose, prescribe medications and provide treatments and surgical procedures to support optimal foot and ankle health.
However, getting to the podiatrist for routine foot care can be an issue. Finding transportation, getting regular, timely appointments and long waits in the waiting room can all be barriers.
And the questions, “Do they take my insurance and how much will my co-pay be?” don’t always have good answers. In addition, some podiatrists no longer offer routine foot care as part of their services because of insurance/Medicare reimbursement hassles.
You can have a podiatrist AND a foot care nurse!
On the other hand, some (not all) salons can be staffed with people who are minimally trained in infection control or may not follow health department requirements at all. It is the rare salon employee who is paying attention to the specific medical concerns of older feet.
Diabetics, people with immune system issues and those with lower limb circulation problems are especially at risk at nail salons.
Nurses practice excellent infection control with all tools and equipment used on your feet.
Having a medically trained RN looking after your feet on a regular basis helps with early problem detection.
And, for the last two decades, nurses have been voted the most trusted profession so, you know your feet are in good hands!
Facility clinic appointments are about 35 minutes long.
You make your appointment via phone call for any local facility that is hosting a foot care clinic.
If this is your first time with RiverWalk, your brief health history and consent for treatment will be reviewed on the phone, before your appointment. This reduces time spent with paperwork when we are face-to-face for foot care.
Please arrive a few minutes early to the facility. At your scheduled appointment, you take a seat across from the nurse who has a clean, comfortable area for you to sit and relax.
You will receive a copy of your consent for treatment and your HIPAA rights and information at your first session.
Payment for the day’s foot care service is due at the beginning of the visit.
The foot care nurse will assess your lower extremities, feet and toenails to see what’s what.
Nails are trimmed, filed, thinned…whatever your nails need that day!
Calluses and corns are removed or reduced if necessary.
A light, relaxing foot massage ends each session.
Before you leave, we’ll make your next appointment, and the nurse will give you any foot care education sheets that you may need or let you know if you need to seek out further medical care.
Home visits are up to 75 minutes long.
Home visits, while similar to clinic days at facilities, are an extra special time for you with your foot care nurse.
If this is your first time with RiverWalk, your brief health history and consent to treatment will be reviewed on the phone, before your appointment. This reduces time spent with paperwork when we are face-to-face for foot care.
The nurse will usually arrive within 10 minutes of your appointment time. You are asked to have all dogs and cats in another room or outside for the nurse’s protection please and thank you.
Payment for the day’s foot care service is due at the beginning of the visit.
Having a home visit has its perks…we have time to socialize, help you do a small home task or you can just enjoy a longer foot massage and relax.
We can re-size your feet to make sure you are wearing the correct shoe size. Shoes are inspected for wear and tear.
Before your nurse leaves, we’ll make your next appointment, and the nurse will give you any foot care education sheets that you may need or let you know if you need to seek out further medical care.
Upon starting care with RiverWalk, a simple but focused health history is charted in your confidential electronic health record.
This way, the nurses are always aware if you have medical conditions or medications that can affect your foot care and your medical records are encrypted to HIPAA standards, fully safeguarded.
In addition, all RiverWalk RNs hold active, unencumbered (no legal issues) nursing licensure in the state of New Mexico, liability insurance and are CPR certified. She has proof of these 3 things with her at all times...just ask!
Tools are chemically sanitized to hospital standards daily just for you!
RiverWalk RNs know exactly how to keep germs at bay. Infection control is second nature for nurses. And, we always wear masks and gloves.
RiverWalk RNs cannot and will not diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medications. What they will do is let you know what you can do at home to support foot health or when to seek provider (MD) advice.
If a medical provider assessment is needed beyond the foot care nurse’s scope of practice, they will let you know immediately. It will then be your responsibility to follow up with further medical care.
The short answer? No.
This is a fee-for-service, out-of-pocket exchange. Payment is expected at the beginning of each session.
We accept cash, check, credit/debit card or Venmo.
Medicare and many insurance plans do not like to cover routine foot care services. If an insurance plan does cover routine foot care, your deductible may not be met yet, costing you much more than RiverWalk services. Co-pays can be costly as well.
Our self-pay policy allows us to keep costs down for everyone. We are generally less expensive than most co-pays.
If you would like to compare our costs with a podiatry visit, please contact your local podiatrist and insurance provider.
No! If you are homebound for any reason, RiverWalk can meet your needs.
If you have health issues at any age (think: cancer, diabetes, auto-immune conditions) that could use a medically trained eye when foot care is needed, a nurse from RiverWalk is a great solution.
And, if you cannot reach your feet due to pregnancy or disability, let’s chat!
We know that life happens, right!? Please call us as soon as you know & we will help accommodate you. We have a 24-hour no-show/late cancellation policy. Late cancellations or no-shows will be issued a charge.
